TVNZ 7 Goes down the tubes 2012   April 2011

If you got used to the 10 min news on the hour, every hour and the Docos on the channel you will be disappointed that all this will end June 2012 when the $15 million funding from the Government runs out. Notice that TVNZ rolled over and let it go because it was taking audience off its Commercial channels TV1 and TV2 Channel U.  Maybe they hoped that the Government would at the last minute might find something. Funny the National Government came to the party with deferring License fees of $43 million for TV3 (Media works) while this company is $387 million in debt.  Still it shows total support for SKY and Media Works from National. Wonder if Labour gets in will they commit to funding TVNZ 7.

Changes to channels - Musical Chairs  March 2011

If you wonder what happened to C4 it seems that the music is going and that is solely going to be on C42.  Media Works C4 is renamed as Four.  TVNZ sold off the Kids TVNZ 6 to SKY but introduced a new Channel called Channel U.  Teenager Stuff.  Time will tell if “U” is successful or a Stuff up.

As Auckland has the biggest chinese community, there is a Chinese channel totally in Mandarin for this community. Its freeview offering is only on HD Freeview which is a good move because most of the community are using those wire mesh dishes to receive this type of service now and wont have to invest in another dish only a UHF aerial. Avaliable also in Wellington and Christchurch

Not everyone is going to get the Freeview HD service. ### Very interesting ###

More and more leisure time is being spent on the internet. It is now 50 / 50 between internet and TV. With the internet figures growing, how viable will the TV business be in the future. While TV adverts are on what does one do? “Lets have a cuppa” . . . “I’ll just go and check my emails”!  Advertisers are not going to take this audience loss and pay the same advertising costs! Checkout moves from Telstar/ Clear into the TV market with internet online TV content like TIVO.
